David_Barash_228x342.jpgCantor David Barash is currently serving his eighth year at Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.   Previously, he served as Cantor for nine years at Congregation Beth Shalom in Kansas City, Missouri.  He studied Hazzanut at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and completed his training at its Cantors Institute in 1992, after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1987.

David has created a CD with accompanist Barbara Katz for toddlers and preschoolers entitled "Big Jewish Songs for Little Jewish Kids."  He is featured on another CD with Kansas City-based Yachad, the Traveling T'fillah Band; and on a CD of Jewish folksongs, "I Can't Keep the Past Behind Me," with guitarist, Lil' Rev.  He is currently working on a Torahpalooza CD with the Torahpalooza Band which will be available soon.

David serves as one of three chaplains for the North Shore Fire Department.  He looks forward to ride-alongs and supporting the firefighters. He has two wonderful children, Natan and Rafi, and is happily married to Debra Gorra Barash.

A Note From our cantor

Thank you for "A Salute to Song and Spirit: The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band!"

"A Salute to Song and Spirit: The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band" concert is now over and I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who worked so hard to make this another wonderful success! My hat goes off to our talented musicians, Kimber Leigh Nussbaum, vocalist; Alex Koffman, violin and musical director; Jeff Jeziorsky on clarinet; Ivo Braun on trumpet; Bob Samborski on trombone; Gail Mangurten on piano; Jim Cox on bass; and Mark Ponarovsky on drums.

I am extremely grateful to our hard working committee: to Jesse Rosen, who helped to design the invitation, posters and program and attended to every detail with his fantastic style; to Jacquie Wolf, who made this the remarkable fundraiser that it was - we were able to raise over $25,000 for the congregation! A huge thanks to Sara Cherny and Margaret Baldino for all their "behind the scenes" work, labeling the chairs and organizing the tickets; to Leila Silverberg for her help in writing the articles for Ha-Kol; to Rosalie Rellin for her assistance at music committee meetings; and to Debra Gorra Barash, for taking care of all the details for the delicious reception after the concert. Thank you to our Brotherhood members for their assistance in ushering. A very sincere thanks to Toni Quartana, my assistant, for her invaluable help in keeping track of all the donations and ticket sales - a daunting task!

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our Concert Sponsors. Thanks to all of you for an unforgettable evening.

Lastly, my gratitude goes out to Rabbi Berkson, our professional and support staff, Robert Friebert, the executive committee, and the board of directors, as well as to all of you who attended for your unwavering support of this musical endeavor.

Hope to see you at the next Cantors' Concert scheduled for May 15, 2011!!

L'Shalom,
Cantor David Barash
