Yom Kippur Learning/Discussion Sessions

Belonging

Noon-12:45
Dr. Magda G. Peck, ScD, Founding Dean of the Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health and continued friend of CEEBJ and Milwaukee, will speak on Unwrapping Pandemic’s Uninvited Gifts: A Powerful Yom Kippur Paradox.  How many months has it been... since we embraced beloved elders without fear, or welcomed wet smooches from our youngest, or just shook hands casually with friends and neighbors?  Magda joins us from the West Coast to reflect on the uninvited losses and gifts of the coronavirus pandemic. Through personal and professional lenses of public health and belonging, Magda will offer insights and stories to help make better sense in ominous and uncertain times, with persistent optimism and hope.

1-1:45
Dr. Jonathan Weinberg, psychiatrist and son of Rabbi Dudley Weinberg (z”l), will join us from the East Coast to talk about belonging and obligations to our parents.  Jonathan and his sister Myra edited a book of his father’s writings entitled Becoming Kaddish.

2-2:45
Chelsea Cross, a local organizer who grew up in our congregation, will speak of the challenges of belonging.  Chelsea is a Jew of color who also sits on the board of Edot: Midwest Regional Jewish Diversity Collaborative.
