Two Days To Go And The Training Is Going Well
Debra and I have been biking up a storm the last few days – we have been biking over 20 miles a day and doing many hill repetitions, and are logging in around 1800 to 2000 feet of elevation each time out.
We had an excellent time shopping at Machaneh Yehudah again on Friday morning, and on Saturday morning, we went to the Agron St. Synagogue for services, a progressive conservative synagogue where my grandmother and grandfather had been very active in the 70s. My grandparents, Annabelle and Leo Argand, made aliyah in 1971, and lived in Jerusalem until 1983. My grandmother Annabelle embroidered many Jewish pieces of art, among them a curtain for the ark at that synagogue, and also a couple of Torah mantles. We did observe that one of the Torah mantles was indeed one that she had embroidered probably over 40 years ago, and were able to go back and take a picture with it.
On Saturday night after Shabbat, we connected with Amy Ginsberg, and had a wonderful meal with her at a Chinese restaurant called Sheyan in the heart of Jerusalem. We are excited to begin the ride with her on Wednesday morning.
On our way back to our apartment hotel on Saturday evening, we stopped on Ben-Yehuda Street to marvel at the dancing and singing that occurs…even as late as 10:30 or 11 PM in the evening! Also, note the Kosher McDonald’s on Ben-Yehudah Street.
Today was a great riding day with lots of beautiful scenery, and we have one more day of training tomorrow before the group orientation on Tuesday.
Wishing you Shavua Tov – have a good week!
