Romemu wide program for Tu B'Shevat

Sunday, February 5, 2023 14 Sh'vat 5783

9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

On Sunday, February 5, Romemu will celebrate Tu b’Shevat. Our focus this year will be on one of trees’ favorite residents, birds. Did you know that while birds need  trees for food and shelter, trees actually need birds too? Studies show that  insectivorous birds keep insect populations in check. Trees cages to exclude birds  can show marked reduction in trunk growth and leaf health. The term is terrestrial,  top-down trophic cascade. When we add birdfeeders on a tree, the tree likes it.

So, on Sunday, February 5, we will explore birds of Israel. We will learn how one bird  became the national bird of Israel. We will learn how a song about birds  connected Jews in Africa to Israel. We will learn about how Israel has 500 million  birds that migrate through Israel and how that impacts Israel, including its air travel.  We will also explore our local bird life.

Immediately after Romemu, Brotherhood will be hosting a presentation by Schlitz Audubon of live birds. We hope our families will join us for this exciting Tu b’Shevat presentation.
